3. Buddhism
Two thousand five hundred years ago in Northern India a man was born whose influence would extend throughout the East and eventually spread throughout the world. Seeking enlightenment, he went from teacher to teacher. Finally he sat beneath a tree near the sacred city of Gaya, vowing to remain there until he attained the Goal. He did so attain and, while walking away from the place of his triumph, was asked: "Who are you?" His reply was simple: "I am awake." Hence he is known as the Awakened One, the Buddha. And his recorded words point all who seek to The Way.
